The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Wednesday, August 19, 2009 John William Nelson, age 72, passed away on Aug. 13, 2009, in Prescott, Ariz. He was born Sept. 30, 1936, in Albert Lea, Minn. Jack grew up and graduated from high school in Wells, Minn. Ten days after graduation he joined the United States Marine Corps. He was extremely proud to be a Marine. After discharge from the Marine Corps he went to college for a year. He met and married his wife of 50 years, Patricia, at this time they moved to Michigan and Jack became a firefighter for the City of Ypsilanti. He served 33 years, retiring with the rank of Captain. He loved the fire service. At the time of his death he was a lieutenant colonel in the Civil Air Patrol, a volunteer Air Force auxiliary. He served 25 years and enjoyed every minute of that time. Jack is survived by his wife, Patricia; daughter Kelly; son Jon; and brother Richard. Services for Jack will be at 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 24, 2009, at Chino Valley Funeral Home, Chino Valley, Ariz.
