Betty Louise Schulstadt passed away Aug. 21, 2009, at her sister's home in Prescott, Ariz. Betty was born in Hershey, Penn., Nov. 17, 1937, the daughter of Kenneth and Pauline Habbyshaw.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Charles Schulstadt. Betty is survived by her two sons, Alan (Debby) Vinson and Craig (Julie) Vinson, from her first marriage; six grandchildren; her sister and brother-in-law (co-caregivers to Betty) Sandy and Dennis Stringer; her aunt, Betty Baker; and her cousin, Cheryl (Gene) Bombara.

Betty had a real zest for life despite the many illnesses she had to contend with, the worst one of all being mesothelioma, which took her life.

During her lifetime, she enjoyed camping and hiking throughout the United States. She was a lover of all animals and supported many various charities to that end. Betty was a very loving person and she had very strong opinions when engaged in political discussions. It could be said her greatest enjoyments were aboard any cruise ship bound for far-away destinations. Sadly, she did not get to make that last cruise. Betty also loved to snow ski until arthritis made it impossible. Just 2 1/2 years ago in Canada, she decided to be daring and go zip-lining - she had a "blast." She hung upside down in a harness going 55 mph across a 500-foot ravine and went back for more.

My dear sister loved the Lord with all her heart. She was so very happy to become a Eucharistic Minister at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Prescott.

Services are to be on Sept. 2, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She will be interred with her late husband at Calvary Cemetery in Flagstaff, Ariz., at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be made to The American Cancer Society or Granite Mountain Hospice in Betty's name.

A special thanks to Granite Mountain Hospice and their very caring staff. Also to Kevin Doyle, M.D., and Nancy Blum, D.O., and staff for their wonderful care of Betty. The family so appreciates their warmth and assistance.

Hampton Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements. Please visit www.hamptonfuneralhome.com to sign Betty's guest book.
