The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Friday, August 28, 2009 Like most people, Peggy Composto took pride in her family. But she also had a feisty spirit and a lust for life that extended beyond her kin. Before she had children, she worked at a truck stop diner, Hearst Publishing in Manhattan and a telephone company. When describing her younger years, she would say in her notable Brooklyn accent: "We had a ball!" She moved to Southern California in 1957, where she later met her husband, Tony Composto. He worked as her supervisor at the post office, and would take her entire group of friends on outings just to have a few minutes with her. He often proposed marriage, and she just as often refused. She finally accepted and they were married in 1974. They retired and moved to Prescott Valley, Ariz., shortly after. They were married for 33 years before Mr. Composto died in 2007. Mr. and Mrs. Composto enjoyed retired life, and Mr. Composto often said with a laugh, "I was retired for longer than I worked!" Mrs. Composto died Sunday in her home in Santee, Calif. She was 81. She is survived by her four children; a granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Composto will be interned with her husband at the Prescott National Cemetery. Donations in her name may be made to the San Diego Hospice at www.sdhospice.org. Information provided by survivors. See Also: Find A Grave |
