| The Wickenburg AZ, Wickenburg, AZ April 5, 2006, B7. J. Donovan “Don” Herndon, age 84, passed away April 1 in Wickenburg. Don was born Nov. 6, 1921 in Macomb, Ill., to Harvey M. Herndon and Ruth Hodgen Herndon. He was raised there and attended schools there. He married Marjorie Penington August 5, 1945, and they made their home in Macomb. They moved to Arizona in 1958, settling in Tucson, where he worked for Shamrock Farms as a distribution manager. He transferred to Phoenix in 1976 and retired after 35 years with Shamrock in 1987. He moved to Wickenburg later that year. He was a member of the St. Mark's Methodist Church of Tucson and a former member of the Wickenburg Lions Club. He enjoyed woodworking and loved to travel, which he had the opportunity to do following his retirement. Don is survived by his wife Marjorie of Wickenburg; daughter Cindy Shelley of Wickenburg; son Scott Herndon (Adrienne) of Macomb, Ill.; brother Hodgen Herndon of Adair, Ill.; grandchildren Brian Davis of Phoenix, Lori McKee (Doug) of Bullhead City, Kolette and Jessica Herndon both of Macomb, Ill.; eight great-grandchildren; two nieces and one nephew. He is preceded in death by sister Rita Denman in 1985. Memorial services and interment will take place in Macomb, Ill., at a later date. The family suggests memorials in his memory be made to Sun Health Hospice, P.O. Box 2015, Sun City, AZ 85372 or the American Diabetes Foundation. Arrangements are under the direction of Wickenburg Funeral Home. |
