Margaret Kell, age 82, passed away in Peoria, Ariz., on Thursday March 30. Margaret was born in Kersey, Colo., on Sept. 9, 1923 to David and Lydia (Lesser) Kreps.

She graduated from high school there at the age of 16 and moved to California to pursue her life-long dream of becoming a teacher. She attended college in San Diego, earned her degree, and her dream of teaching began.

In 1942 she met a handsome Marine named Tom Kell, and they married on Feb. 2, 1944. Their three children were born while the couple lived in San Diego, and Margaret taught school there until the family moved to Lakewood, Calif., in 1951.

Margaret taught elementary school in the Long Beach Unified School District from 1952 until her retirement in 1977 and thoroughly enjoyed her years in the classroom. She had many wonderful stories to tell of the students, teachers, and parents she had contact with, and she was well liked by those she touched.

Tom and Margaret were also active in Bethany Lutheran Church in Long Beach for the years they lived in Lakewood. Tom was at various times an elder and a trustee. Margaret taught Sunday school and often played the piano for church and Sunday school services. She was also a Camp Fire Girls leader for several years.

Margaret and Tom moved to Big River, Calif., in 1978 and continued traveling around the country, eventually visiting Canada, Mexico, and all but two of the 50 states. They left Big River and Moved to a SKP (Escapees) park near Congress, Ariz., in about 1993 where Tom became a Rainbow Builder, helping to build the SKP's North Ranch RV Park. Margaret was active with the Sunshine group, sending cards and letters to “Skips” who were ill and keeping the other members informed.

They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their SKP friends and family at North Ranch in 1994. When the park was finished, they put up their own home and planned to remain there while still taking trips to see family in three states.

After Tom was injured from a fall off a truck and had surgery, they sold their home at the park and moved to an apartment at a retirement ranch in Wickenburg, Ariz., in 2000.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and a granddaughter. Her loving husband Tom of 62 years also preceded her on April 16, 2005. She leaves behind her children Geri Allen of Blythe, Calif., Tom (Deb) Kell of Chandler, Ariz., and Joyce (Burrall) Sanders of Falcon, Colo. Also brother Robert (Jeanne) Kreps and Kenneth Kreps of Colorado, and a sister Doris (Emery) Fitts of San Diego, Calif. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many friends.

A memorial service was held on April 15 in Colorado, and there will be one at a later date in Arizona.
