Sanford “Butch” Herndon passed away June 9 in Wickenburg. He was born Feb. 15, 1946 in Winslow, Ariz.

Services are pending.

Sanford Lee (Butch) Herndon, 60, passed away in Wickenburg June 9.

Butch was born in Winslow on Feb. 15, 1946 to Sanford Clyde and Edythe Herndon.

The Herndons moved to Wickenburg in 1956 from Elgin, Ill. Bruce graduated from Wickenburg High School in 1964.

Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the Navy. He was sent to Vietnam, and during the war he was a medical assistant. He earned a National Service Defense medal and a Vietnam medal.

Bruce was honorably discharged Aug. 2, 1968, and he returned to Wickenburg. He worked for Benner-Nauman for 20 years and recently worked at Denny's in Wickenburg.

Bruce is preceded in death by his grandparents Ernest and Rose Burren and his father Clyde Herndon. He is survived by his mother Edythe “Squirrely” Herndon of Wickenburg, his sister Cyrene “Tootie” Sargent (Mike) of Wickenburg, niece Julie (John) Sparks of Chandler, nephew Jeff Sargent of Montana.

Bruce leaves behind two daughters, Cecelia L. Herndon of Wickenburg and Heidi (Rich) Granatelli of Glendale, and three granddaughters - Emily Lynch, Kate and Jerin Granatelli.

Butch was looking forward to the birth of his first grandson Xander Granatelli, due in September.

Butch was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan as well as an Oakland Raiders fan. He will be missed greatly by his family and friends.

Memorial services will take place at David's Desert Chapel Saturday (June 24) at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The American Diabetes Organization in memory of Sanford L. Herndon. The address is P.O. Box 1132 Fairfax, VA. 22038-1132.
