The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ June 21, 2006, p. B8 Funeral services for Simon H. Polvado, 85, who passed away June 13 in Peoria, took place Friday (June 16) at the First Southern Baptist Church with Pastor Dean Stanley officiating. Simon was born Aug. 24, 1920 in Vanderpool, Texas. He served in the U.S. Army during Word War II and the Korean War and was highly decorated for his service. He received a Silver Star with clusters, five Bronze Stars, a Bronze Star medal with Oak Leaf cluster, a Good Conduct medal and two Purple Hearts. Simon retired from the military in 1963. He worked on the oil wells in Oklahoma and for Kendall Mills in the textile business for 20 years before coming to Wickenburg in 1994. Simon was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church as well as the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign War. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Polvado of Wickenburg; sons- and-daughters-in-law Jack and Goldie Polvado of Wickenburg, and Brian and Sue Polvado of Michigan; daughter Myrnie Polvado of Attleboro, Mass.; grandchildren Dillon, Teresa and Abigail; and step-grandchildren Cody and Will. Arrangements were made under the direction of the Wickenburg Funeral Home. |
