The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ September 20, 2006, p. A10. Alice M. Flynn, age 81 passed away Sept. 13 in Sun City West, Ariz. She was born August 23, 1925 in Decatur, Ill., and came to Arizona in 1970 settling in Wickenburg. She is survived by husband Edward Flynn of Wickenburg; son Owen Black of Wickenburg; daughter Michelle Black of Denver, Colo.; step-daughters and husbands Carol and Manuel Vierra of Naugatuck, Conn., Ruth and Jeff St. Pierre of Bangor, Maine, and Patti and Victor York of Wittmann, Ariz.; as well as grandchildren John Black of Wickenburg, and Ana Maria, Autumn, and Alexandria Black all of Monte Vista, Colo. Services will be held at a later date. B7 Alice Marie Flynn passed away Sept. 13 at the Sun Health Hospice Center in Sun City West. She was born Aug. 23, 1925 in Decatur, Ill. Marie was raised in East Chicago, Ind., and graduated from Roosevelt High School. After graduation, she married Carl M. Black. Marie had worked at Singer Sewing and Colgate-Palmolive. Later, she and Carl owned and operated a Tastee Freez restaurant in Plano, Ill. In 1970, they moved to Wickenburg, where they owned and operated the Bristol Motel. Upon Carl's death in 1986, she sold the business but remained in Wickenburg. Marie became a volunteer for the Desert Caballeros Western Museum. In 2006, she received the “Lifetime Award: for 13 years and 2,975 hours - just short of her 3,000-hour goal. In 1995, Marie married Edward Flynn. She and Ed lived at the Palm Drive Mobile Home Park, where they enjoyed their friendship with many of the park residents. Marie was preceded in death by her parents Amos and Goldie Hendricks; two sisters, Maxine and Aileen; and brother Amos (Junior). Marie is survived by her husband Edward, daughter Michelle R. Black, son Owen M. Black, step-daughters Carol Vierra (Manuel), Ruth St. Pierre (Jeff) and Patti York (Victor); and four grandchildren: John, AnaMaria, Autumn, Alexandria Black. Memorial services will be held Saturday (Oct. 14) at 10 a.m. at the Community Alliance Church, with Pastor Dave Hunter officiating. Arrangements were made under the direction of Wickenburg Funeral Home. |
