The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ November 1, 2006, p.A18 Richard Perkins had the spirit of an explorer and adventurer. He started out by working for Shelby and Dolan Hardware stores in Sacramento, Calif. After World War II he became a pressman, worked for the Oak Park Shopper, the Union and the Bee. He drove the Alcan Highway in the winter to go to work for the Daily News Miner in Fairbanks, Alaska. He learned to mush a trap line, to fly, shot a polar bear, which is still in the record books, and later became the captain of the Kismet sailing vessel, traveled the world, and built three homes with his wife. In his 83 years he was a loving husband to Eleanor. They grew up across the street from each other as children. Even then she used to follow him everywhere, and she continued to do so for the 60 years they were married. He was a supporting and loving father to Pamela Graybill and her husband Terry; Deborah Perkins who precedes him; Gregg Perkins and his wife Annie; and Kimberly Perkins. He was a nurturing grandfather of six: Richard, Aleesha, Amber, TJ, Alexis and Veronica. Richard passed on October 24 due to a broken heart. His hardy and daring nature will be remembered by all his family and friends. Arrangements were under the direction of Wickenburg Funeral Home. |
