After an extended illness, wife, mother, and homemaker Jean Mary Weissenborn of Aguila passed away on Nov. 17 while resting comfortably at home. Jean was born on May 21, 1928 in Milwaukee, Wis., to Robert and Jeannette (Doyle) Porter. She graduated from high school and was employed by AT&T. On May 26, 1951 she married Harlan Weissenborn. They made their home in Milwaukee and had two children.

In 1957 Harlan's career as an aerospace engineer for General Motors took the family to Lancaster, Calif., (Edwards AFB), followed by moves to Alamogordo, N.M., (Holloman AFB/White Sands Missile Range), Titusville, Fla., (Cape Canaveral) and Santa Maria, Calif., (Vandenburg AFB).

Following an employer change to TRW, the family moved to Rancho Palos Verdes in Southern California in 1966. Jean worked for the California Department of Motor Vehicles, but still found time to serve as Cub Scout den mother, Brownie and Girl Scout leader, and 4-H leader. She and Harlan were active with the Mount Olive Lutheran Church youth group.

Jean returned to school and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Earth Science from California State University Long Beach in 1980. After graduation she volunteered as a docent at Cabrillo Beach Marine Museum in San Pedro, leading tours of students through the museum and tide pools. Jean also found time to take flying lessons in their Cessna Skyhawk 172. In 1989 Harlan retired and they moved to Arizona, living in Wickenburg until their home was completed at Eagle Roost Airpark in Aguila in 1991.

Jean enjoyed flying, gardening, sewing, ceramics, hiking, camping and travel. She belonged to the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) where she served as Chapter 883 secretary and newsletter editor. She was also in the SGA (Sewing Guild of America) where she served as public relations coordinator.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years Harlan, her brothers Robert (Jean) of Poplar Grove, Ill., and Kenneth (Lyn) of Waukesha, Wis.; her children Lawrence of La Honda, Calif., and Claudia (Ronald) Mullek of Entiat, Wash.; and many other loving relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday (Nov. 29) at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wickenburg at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to a favorite charity in Jean's honor are suggested by the family.

Arrangements under the direction of Wickenburg Funeral Home
