M. Allan Volkenant, of Wickenburg, formerly of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., died Wednesday Nov. 22 on his 71st birthday, at Del E. Webb Memorial Hospital in Sun City West, Ariz., where he had been admitted the day before. Cause of death was complications of cancer, which he had courageously fought for over a year and a half.

Allan was born Nov. 22, 1935 in Kenmare (Ward County) N.D., to Matt and Lillian (Nelson) Volkenant. The family moved to Wisconsin Rapids when Allen was about 7 years old. He attended Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Grade School and Lincoln High School.

He served in the U. S. Army from August of 1955 to August of 1957 and was stationed in France. He worked in various industry jobs, with his latest employment being 21 years with the Wisconsin State Highway Department from 1971 until this retirement in 1992. In April 1993 he moved to Wickenburg and worked on a horse ranch in Wyoming in the summers for several years.

He was married and divorced three times. He was preceded in death by his parents and two of his ex-wives. He is survived by his son Scott, of Wisconsin Rapids, his daughter Renae Sigall of Madison, his sister Rosemary of Wisconsin Rapids, his special friend Diana Woodall of Wickenburg, along with many other treasured friends in the Wickenburg area, especially “Frenchie” Burian, Roger Fornoff, Tom Huth and “Boots” Lyle.

He was cremated and his ashes returned to Wisconsin Rapids for memorial services and interment.

Arrangements locally are under the direction of Wickenburg Funeral Home and Higgins Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids.
