The White Mountain Independent Show Low, Arizona 05/30/2008 Verna Wiltbank Ray, 93, died May 25, 2008, at her residence in Eagar surrounded by her loving family. She was born Aug. 7, 1914, in Greer, to James Hyrum Wiltbank and Sadie Roseltha Burk. Verna worked as a nurse's aide for 15 years. She was a mother, grandma, nurse and friend. She loved to crochet, go "visiting teaching," read, do crosswords and watch her favorite shows like "Jeopardy," "Murder She Wrote" and "Walker, Texas Ranger." She always had a Pepsi in hand. She is survived by son, Jack V. (Brenda) Ray of Eagar; daughters MaryLou Ray Greer of Eagar, Gloria June Hardt of Eagar, Marsha Ray (Roger) Sowder of Alto, N.M.; 14 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Verna was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jack Theodore Ray; brother Lester Wiltbank; sisters Freda Slade and Idella Woods; and granddaughter Dia Cherice Greer. Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 28, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center in Eagar. Visitation was held prior to the funeral service.
