The White Mountain Independent Show Low, Arizona 03/28/2008 Nelson N. Harris, 83, died at his residence in St. Johns (Salado) March 22, 2008. He was born Oct. 19, 1924, in Quemado, N.M. to C.A. Harris and Grace Z. Harris. Nelson served his country as a medic in the U.S. Army during WWII. He retired from the U.S. Forest Service in 1982 after 28 years as a heavy equipment operator. He devoted his life to his family and his church. Nelson served as a church elder and treasurer for 40 years in the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Springerville. His survivors include his wife, Sophie; sons Bob A. (Beverly) Harris of Eagar, David R. (Paula) Harris of Eagar and Rudy A. (Rebecca) Harris of St. Johns; daughters Lillian (Ken) Martin of Vernon and Ruby (Lyndon) Ernst of Nice, Calif.; brother Leo E. Harris of Twin Falls, Idaho; sister Delphia Trusty of Houston, Texas; 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a 2-year-old son, Steve. A visitation was held Wednesday, March 26, at Burnham Mortuary in Eagar. Funeral services were held Thursday, March 27, at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Springerville. Interment followed at the Eagar Cemetery.
