Albert R. Cochrun died Friday, Dec. 24 at the Yavapai Medical Center after brief illness.

He was born in Columbus, Ohio, Aug. 26, 1930, son of Albert Ross Cochrun and Nellie Roache Cochrun.

He was one of the original sopranos with the Columbus Boys Choir (now the American Boys Choir based in Princeton, N.J.). He performed as soloist at their concerts across the country, including New York City, with Gladys Swathort. He was graduated from the choir's school in the eighth grade and then attended a Columbus High School. He was a World War II Army veteran.

He came to Arizona in 1993 from Maine, where he had lived for 39 years after leaving New York City. He worked in radio and the performing arts in Maine and throughout New England and was well known in community theater productions before and after receiving his three degrees in education from the University of Maine in Music and Master Degrees in Elementary Administration and Adult Education.

He taught for 25 years in public and private schools. He retired from teaching in June of 1993.

He was soloist at the Christian Scientist Church of Portland, Maine. In 1987, he formed Fanfare Concert Band - performing throughout Maine; and in 1991, he traveled to North Berwick and Edinburough, Scotland, to perform in concerts and parades with host Scottish pipe bands.

Here in Arizona, he was a past commander of the Taylor Keehner Post 79 in Yarnell and has served as a chaplain the past four years.

He was preceded in death by his brother Jack in 1981, and sisters Helen in 2002 and Wilma in 2003 - all of Ohio.

He leaves his wife of 50 years, the former Marilyn P. Bennett of Maine; his son Kevin Ross Cochrun of Fairborn, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews, all of Ohio.
