The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ March 2, 2005, p. A9 Irma Frances (Bitter) Omoth was born on July 8, 1919 in rural Carpio, N.D., to William H. Bitter and Frances Mary Ann (Arnott) Bitter. She passed away at the age of 85 years on Feb. 21, in Wickenburg, Ariz. She attended school in Carpio, and graduated from Carpio High School in 1937. She attended Minot State Teacher's College in Minot, N.D., and received a standard teaching certificate in 1939. Subsequently, she taught in schools in Bremen, Sanish, Carpio, and Minot. During this time she spent several summers working in the defense plants in Seattle, Wash. On June 24, 1946, she married Olaf E. Omoth. They had three children, Bruce and Frances both of Wickenburg, and Loren of Gallup, N.M. Irma was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Bremen, where she was active in the ladies aid group and Bible study and taught Sunday school. She served as Church organist and choir director and taught private piano lessons to area children for over 30 years. She also played the violin and sang vocal solos into her late sixties. Irma was also an accomplished seamstress, sewing for her family and neighbors. After Olaf died in 1983, she returned to college to pursue her life long interest in music at Mayville State University. She resided in New Rockford, N.D. until 1997, when she moved to Wickenburg to be nearer her children. Most recently, she was a member of the first Presbyterian Church in Wickenburg. She was well known for the bread and doughnuts she baked and shared with friends. She was an avid reader and liked to crochet, knit and tat. She pieced many quilts and crocheted many afghans for her family. She was always engaged in something constructive, and in recent years, she made lap quilts for the area nursing home residents. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Elsie June (Mrs. Donovan Grilley), and her husband. She is survived by sister Norma (Mrs. Donavan Johnson, Minot), her three children, three grandchildren, and two great-grand children as well as a niece and four nephews. Interment will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Bremen, N.D., at a later date. A memorial service was held Feb. 25, at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Jim Longstreet officiating.
