Donavon H. "Don" Erwin, age 71, passed away March 17 in Congress, Ariz. He was born April 30, 1933 in Pine Island, Minn., to Howard E. Erwin and Maxine M. Arndt Erwin.

He was raised and attended schools there, graduating from Pine Island High School in 1951. He later served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955.

Following his military service, he returned to the Pine Island area and began farming in Millville, Minn., which he did most of his life. He worked for IBM as an analyzer for 31 years before retiring in 1989.

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Breman as well as a member of the American Legion Post in Millville.

He married Geraldine Kleiber July 27, 1985, in Millville, and they made their home there. Following his retirement, he began farming full-time.

In 1997, the Erwins moved to Arizona, working and living at Robson's Mining World for three years, later moving to Stanton, Ariz., until 2001 when they moved to North Ranch near Congress.

Don loved the desert and prospecting as well as hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Elks Lodge No. 2160 in Wickenburg and a member of the Lost Dutchman's Mining Association.

He is survived by his wife Geraldine "Gerri" of North Ranch (Congress, Ariz.); children Bradley Erwin of Elgin, Minn., Steven Erwin of Broken Arrow, Okla., Eric Erwin of Owattona, Minn., Debbie Erwin of Rochester, Minn., Ann Dessner of Elgin, Minn., Susan Roberson of Boca Raton, Fla.; step-daughters Teresa Rudd of Colorado Springs, Colo., Dawn Weidendorf of Elgin, Minn., Amy Kennelly of Plainview, Minn.; sisters Evelyn Runge of Ostrander, Minn., Vivian Krier of North Ranch, Nancy Andriest of Lake City, Minn.; 29 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren
