Nellie Anne Setka, 91, of Wheatfields, passed away Sept. 2, 2009. She was born in Globe, Ariz. on Sept. 7, 1917.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Katie Setka; brothers, Mark, Matt and Martin; and sisters, Rose, Annie and Eva. Surviving are her brother Steve of Phoenix, and her sister Katie Baskett of Peoria. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom she has enjoyed through the years.

Annie and Johnnie Koury's family has cared for her and Eva for the past few years. She was ever grateful to Eddie and Lynda, Pat and Christi, Mike and their sister Mary Whitten. Nellie and Eva retired to the farm where they grew up and were fortunate to have wonderful friends and neighbors who helped them with their cattle and the huge garden. They shared the vegetables with everyone.

Nellie graduated with honors from ASU and taught in Harshaw her first year. She taught in Miami, Phoenix, and Peoria before moving back to teach in Globe and help her Dad with the farm. An accomplished athlete, she spent any spare time at school helping students with sports.

A dedicated teacher, she was much appreciated by her students and their parents. She loved all sports, but especially enjoyed tennis tournaments and golf on TV. Nellie was a lifelong member of the Holy Angels Catholic Church. And she was always loyal to the Yankees, D-Backs, and the ASU Sun Devils.

Visitation was held at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009 at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Globe, followed by a Rosary at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial was at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 7, 2009. Interment followed at Pinal Cemetery – Croatian Section in Central Heights, Ariz.

The family requests contributions be sent to Holy Angels School, 1300 E. Cedar St., Globe, AZ 85501.
