Wickenburg resident Frederick J. Schoembs died Aug. 9 in Sun City West, Ariz., following a brief illness.

Fred was born in Villa Ridge, Ill., on Aug. 26, 1934, the son of Emily V. and Edgar O. Schoembs. In 1944 he and his family moved to Colorado where he resided until 1985 when he moved to Wickenburg. He was a graduate of Arizona State University and served in the armed forces in Korea.

From 1985 through 1997 he was a member of the CB Insurance Firm. He retired in 1997. He was active in the Wickenburg community as a member of the Elks Club, Past President of the Rotary Club, and involved with the Western Desert Stagers. He is remembered as an outstanding Master of Ceremonies during the Gold Rush Days festivities. Known for his quick wit and brilliant mind, he was always a super star when he participated in any function.

Fred is survived by son Andrew, daughter-in-law Andrea and grandson Logan of Laguna Beach, Calif.; daughter Laura, son-in-law Brett of Denver, Colo.; and a sister Emily and brother-in-law Mike of Sun City West, Ariz.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Wickenburg Elks Club on Tuesday, Aug. 23 from 4-7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name may be sent to the Wickenburg Desert Stagers Fellowship Fund c/o Meridian Bank, 2001 W. Wickenburg Way, Wickenburg AZ 85390.

Interment will be in Trinidad, Colo.
