The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ August 24, 2005, p. A9 Kenneth H. "Kenny" Olson, beloved father, brother, grandfather, mentor and friend, passed away Friday, Aug. 19 after a brief illness. Kenny, born March 26, 1924 in Manistee, Mich., was a recent widower, preceded in death by Elizabeth Olson, and is survived by his children and step-children, Linda Stogner (Marcus), of Michigan, Glenda Bos (Jay) of Mississippi, Charles Olson (Teresa) of California, Susan Miller-Middaugh (Paul) of Arizona, Kenny Olson, Jr. (Cheri) of Arizona, Richard Duffy (Carmen) of California, Lori Keenan of California, Alex Duffy of Arizona, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Kenny is survived by his sister Dorothy Callahan of California. His death was preceded by his brother and sister Robert Olson of Arizona and Alice Trujillo of Michigan. Kenny fought to preserve our way of life and gave the gift of freedom to future generations by serving proudly as a Combat Marine on Iwo Jima and other islands in the South Pacific Theatre during World War II. After being discharged from the Marines, Kenny moved to Arizona where he used his talents as a "jack-of-all-trades." Kenny always enjoyed mining and worked successfully operating mines such as the patented Little Giant Mine near Aguila, which he owned and operated for the last 20 years. During his lifetime, Kenny worked as a mechanic, operated a towing service, moved cactus, and owned a successful GM dealership in Superior, Ariz. He applied his mining skills and his knowledge of geology to develop the mining processes into many successful ventures. Kenny was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. The family would like to note that Kenny was very pleased with the treatment he received over the years at the Phoenix Veterans Hospital due to his combat injuries. A viewing will be held this Thursday (Aug. 25) from 6 - 8 p.m. at Frey-Wickenburg Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday (Aug. 26) in the First Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. with visitation an hour prior. Arrangements under the direction of Frey-Wickenburg Funeral Home. |
