The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ October 12, 2005, B8 James Floyd Rubash, 66, a longtime resident of Grover Beach, Calif., departed from his loving family and passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, Oct. 5. A celebration of Jim's life was held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, at Marshall-Spoo Sunset Funeral Chapel in Grover Beach. Born in 1939 in Wickenburg, Ariz., Jim was the youngest of 12 children. He is joined in heaven by his older siblings Barbara, Joe, Ethyl, Ruby, Art, Grover, Helen and Phyllis. He will be missed by his sister Dorla Onstott and his brothers Tony and Danny Rubash. Jim is survived by his three devoted, loving children who remember their father as a generous, good-humored man, Shelly Cochran and her husband Gil of Arroyo Grande, Calif., Debra Rubash of Austin, Texas, and Michael Rubash of Arroyo Grande, Calif. He also leaves behind five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A kind and dear man, Jim will be remembered fondly by his loving companion, Katherine Brownie, with whom he has made a life and home for the past 21 years. Embraced by her family, he is called Papa by Katherine's children Jean Rush and husband Jody of Santa Maria, Calif., Michele Clark and John Herreid of Atascadero, Calif., Bill Brownie and wife Lisa of Washington, and Kimberly Rael and husband Bob of Paso Robles, Calif., and adoringly called Grandpa by their 11 children. Jim's favorite pastimes include storytelling and barbecuing, and in his younger days he enjoyed playing pool and riding motorcycles. He was known by many of his close friends as ”Q-ball.“ Jim was very grateful to have not one, but two loving families. If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Partners of the Central Coast, who made such a difference in the last chapter of Jim's life. Arrangements are under the direction of Marshall-Spoo Sunset Funeral Chapel in Grover Beach. |
