Joanie McGill of Dewey, Ariz., passed away Sept. 12, 2009, peacefully from her loving family to the loving arms of the Lord. She was born Feb. 13, 1950, in Stourbridge, England, to Thomas and Hilda Milford.

She is survived by her devoted husband Bob; daughter and son-in-law Melanie and Paul Phillips; and son and daughter-in-law Louie and Jennifer Jaramillo. She is also survived by her sisters, Ann and Brenda and her brothers Harry and Tom.

Her many accomplishments include achieving her associate's degree in business - a result of which she had her own accounting business - and her degree in theology at Christian Life University.

She served for many years as a caregiver in her own home. After participating at a special needs summer camp in Wisconsin, she was inspired to start the first chapter of Special Touch Ministries in the state of Arizona. She then served as director and fundraiser for eight years.

The decline of her health and physical limitations did not stop her desire to serve the Lord in any way she could. Even after being confined to her wheelchair, she did not waver in her efforts.

Apart from her faith, she loved to spend time with her family and enjoyed her flower garden, hummingbirds and pond, where she found solitude. Her other interests were sewing, arts and crafts, the Diamondbacks baseball and Denver Bronco football games. She also enjoyed watching figure-skating.

Her charismatic personality touched the lives of all who were around her.

She will be loved and missed by her family and friends. A celebration of life will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, at the Desert Hills Fellowship in Poland Junction, Ariz.

Donations to help the family with expenses are being accepted at Arizona State Credit Union.
