The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Saturday, September 05, 2009 Helene Van Houten, 82, died peacefully in Rochester, N.Y., on Aug. 26, 2009, surrounded by family. She was predeceased by her husband, Jack Van Houten. Survives include brother Cecil Calvert of Scottsville, Ky.; sister Terry Bratcher of Kentucky; children Vicki and King Gremillion of Athens, Texas, Beckie Van Houten of San Diego, Calif., John Van Houten of Taos, N.M., Abby Dan of Rochester, N.Y., and Bruce Dan of Rochester, N.Y.; grandchildren Tiffany Gremillion, King Gremillion, John-Paxton Gremillion, Elika and Carl Carlsen, Jessica Van Houten, Zane Van Houten, Jacob Dan, Nathan Dan and Chava Dan; and four great-grandchildren, Cleo Gremillion, Kyah and Teagan Carlsen and Hazelee Jo Van Houten. After raising their family in Texas, Helene and Jack retired to Prescott, Ariz., where they spent many years traveling. Helene was an avid hiker. Her kindness and selfless devotion and caring will be remembered by the many whose lives were touched by her. She handled her last challenge (Alzheimer's disease) with great dignity and courage.
