Robert D. "Bob" Knoll, 67, of Prescott, Ariz., died Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Iowa City, Iowa.

Committal services with military honors will be at 2 p.m. Sept. 21, 2009, at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa. Online condolences may be sent to his family via www.gayandciha.com.

Robert Dean Knoll was born Aug. 13, 1942, at Ft. Morgan, Colo., the son of Vearl and Effie (Avey) Knoll.

He enlisted with the United States Army during high school, beginning a career in federal government that would span years and a number of wars until his retirement in 2004. He was stationed at military bases and installations across the country and overseas including a tour in Vietnam; five tours in Germany; Fort Bragg, N.C.; Fort Campbell, Ky.; Fort Gordon, Ga.; Fort Riley, Kan.; Rock Island Arsenal, Ill.; Fort Devens, Mass.; ARRTC, Fort McCoy, Wis.; Hickam AFB, Hawaii; Johnston Island; RSD, Richmond, Va.; and retiring to P.O. Box 9037, Prescott, AZ 86313.

His family includes his wife, Peggy; children Robert Dean Knoll Jr. of Hope Mills, N.C., Bobby Dean Knoll of Bettendorf, Iowa and Tammy Lee Knoll of Erie, Ill.; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; his mother, Effie Knoll, and brother James Knoll of Brighton, Colo.
