Harvey T. Headley, 94, of Sterling, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009, in Sterling, Colorado. Memorial Mass was held Saturday, Sept. 5, at St. Anthony Catholic Church with the Rev. Robert L. Wedow celebrating.

Harvey was born on Sept. 1, 1915, in Humboldt, Saskatchewan, Canada, to John T. and Eddith (Hutchinson) Headley. He came to the U.S. when only a few months old. He lived the next few years on farms in Curtis, Neb., and Haxtun, Dailey and Fleming, moving to Crook in 1924. He graduated from Crook High School in 1933.

He left Crook in 1936 and worked on ranches and farms in Stoneham, Willard, Pawnee Valley, and Grayling for six years. He married Clara Ertle on Jan. 13, 1942.

In 1942, Harvey went to the U.S. Army and received a medical discharge in 1944 and returned to Sterling. In 1945, he moved to Sidney and worked at the Sioux Army Depot. He was then transferred to the Navajo Army Depot in Flagstaff, Ariz., in September of 1966. He retired in December 1972, moved to Cottonwood, Ariz., and remained there until June 1996.

He returned to Sterling in 1996 and lived in Sterling during the summers before moving back. He was a member of the American Legion, Elks Lodge, and DAV in Prescott, Ariz., and St. Anthony's Church.

He is survived by his wife, Clara; daughters, Olivia Palmer and husband Bill of Hiawatha, Kan., Judy Frerichs and husband Virg of Lodgepole, Neb., Genny Schepker of Commerce City, Terry Lee of Sterling; son, Kevin Headley and Sharon of Anchorage, Alaska; sister, Ruth Weber of Sterling; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Eddith; brothers, Kelburn, Duane and Burl; daughter, Linda Lou Adams and husband Jim; granddaughter, Lauren Headley; and son-in-law, Larry Schepker.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony Catholic Church.
