The White Mountain Independent Show Low, Arizona 03/30/2004 Edgar B. Merrill, 86, Sheriff of Apache County from 1961 to 1973, died at his home in Springerville, March 21, 2004. Edgar organized the Apache County Sheriffís Posse. He held different jobs within the organization, including being the camp cook. He was fundamental in organizing the Little League Ball teams in St. Johns. He was also a key player in the legislation that increased the previous two-year terms of county officials to four years. He was a deputy sheriff serving in McNary for six years previous to his being elected sheriff. He is survived by his wife Inez; son Fred (Robyn) Merrill; daughters Susan (Charles) Waite, Mary Lou (Steve) Udall, Jerrie Lee Merrill, Vonna Merrill and Roxie Merrill; 25 grandchildren, and 40 great grandchildren. His son Barton, precedes him in death. Services were held at the Springerville Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Church, March 25. Interment was at the Eagar Cemetery. Burnham-Jewkes Mortuary in Springerville handled the arrangements. See Also: Find A Grave |
