David Leroy Adkins, 71, of Tacna, Ariz., passed away on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009. Our beloved Papa went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ after a long illness. He was born to Herlman and Virginia Adkins on June 22, 1938, in Charleston, W.Va.

He moved to Kingman in 1947. There he met and married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Penrod. He spent the next 51 years providing for and loving the family they created together. He was the proud owner of Dave Adkins Loader Service, a joy that he shared with his son, Kevin. Papa was happiest when he was surrounded by his children and grandchildren, and when chocolate pie was involved.

Dave is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Shirley "Shylock" Penrod; son, Kevin Adkins; daughter, Shirlene (Mark) Burt; grandchildren, Cody Adkins, Dillon Svoboda, Danyalle (Paul) Wellman; Darragh (Cody) Taylor, Colter and Anna; great-grandchildren, Lucas and Maddie Mae; sisters, Carol Shaeffer and Rebecca Shambaugh; and many nieces and nephews. We love you, Papa, and will miss you more than words can say!

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, in the Kingman LDS Chapel, 3180 Rutherford St. He will be laid to rest in Show Low the following day.
