Dorothy DeBoer Cope, of Scottsdale, AZ, passed away on August 7, 2005 at the age of 66. She was born, the second of four children, in Cleveland, Ohio.

Following high school graduation from The Andrews School in Willoughby, Ohio, she worked for four years as a lab technician for the Lubrizol Corporation in Wickliffe, Ohio. After moving to Arizona, with the exception of one year living in Taiwan, she has lived in the Phoenix area since 1960. She worked three years for Motorola as a chemical technician when she met her husband, Ron, of forty two years.

After the birth of the first of their two children in 1963, she became a full time homemaker. Concurrently, she was a part-time student at A.S.U., where she earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science degree majoring in Foods and Nutrition and Nutritional Science, respectively. After completing additional American Dietetic Association requirements to earn the credential of R. D. (registered dietitian), she worked three years as an adjunct nutrition faculty at Scottsdale Community College. Then, from 1984 until her medical leave in 2002, she held a full time nutrition faculty position at Phoenix College in the Maricopa Community College District.

She especially enjoyed her earlier years as a full time homemaker and associated involvement in school, church, and community activities. The chats with her family members were especially valued. Other enjoyment included sewing, camping, Bible study, the ongoing study of nutrition, and past college-level teaching and any associated curriculum work. She liked to travel and has visited almost twenty countries and forty-seven of the fifty states.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Katherine DeBOER and by her recently deceased brother, Jack DeBOER, formerly of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

She is survived by her husband Ron COPE; two children Scott and Lori COPE; sister Barbara OLDEHOEFT of Manitou Springs, Colorado; brother Richard DeBOER of Phoenix; plus nieces, nephews, and cousins living throughout the United States and the world.
