The White Mountain Independent Show Low, Arizona 07/02/2004 (07/02/1954 - 05/31/2004) Leo "Sonnie" Banashely, 49, died in Whiteriver May 31, 2004. He was born in Whiteriver, and was raised in the beautiful town of Canyon Day. Sonnie was a member of the White Mountain Apache Tribe. Sonnie attended Sherman Indian High School in Riverside, California. He was employed by Apache Construction also known as D.E. for many years as a carpenter, and cement finisher. He did many cement work on and off the reservation such as for homes, churches, basketball courts, driveways, sidewalks, etc., which he enjoyed working along side with his son who he taught cement finishing. Sonnie enjoyed many outdoor activities such as fishing, hunting, camping, and playing horseshoes with friends, and most of all cement finishing. He will be greatly missed by all his family, relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, a brother, and parents. Funeral Services were held at Sunday June 6, at the Banashely Residence. Interment was in the Canyon Day Cemetery. See Also: Find A Grave |
