Phyllis O'Connor, 82, of Prescott, Ariz., passed away on Sept. 20, 2009. A loving wife, sister, mother and friend. Phyllis was born on Jan. 31, 1927, in Frankfort, Ind. She lived in several towns in Indiana before graduating high school in Sheridan, Ind., in 1945. Her father, Harry O'Connor, mother Alta and brothers Rodney and Keith all moved to Phoenix in 1945.

In 1950 Phyllis married Olen O'Connor, who had begun his career in the U.S. Army, and being an officer's wife she was destined to see much of the world in her travels and moves to various locations.

Phyllis had three sons, Michael, Mark and David, for whom she dedicated her early married life as a homemaker. She had many interests, including sewing clothes for herself, interior decorating and design, cooking, collecting antiques, and most of all just being our mom.

Phyllis and Olen were assigned to locations including Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Michigan, Maine, Germany (twice), California, Greece, Hawaii and Arizona. Phyllis loved the travel and collected many examples of local artifacts.

Phyllis and Olen were married for 57 years, until his demise in 2007.

Phyllis is survived by her sons, Mark and David O'Connor; her brother Rodney O'Connor; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Friday, Sept. 25, 2009, at the Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary located at 7924 N. 59th Ave. in Glendale. A brief service will follow the ceremony, at the National Memorial Cemetery at 23029 N. Cave Creek Road.
