| The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Tuesday, September 22, 2009, page 6a Nov. 20, 1934 - Sept. 5, 2009 Anita M. Valde was born Nov. 20, 1934, in Bayawan, Negros Oriental, Philippines. Anita was the second of two daughters born to Felipe and Julita Valde. Her older sister, Delores, currently resides with her husband Jay in Missouri. Annie married Charles E. Gregory (Ed), a U.S. sailor on July 14, 1957, in Manila. On July 19, 2009, Annie and Ed renewed their wedding vows after 52 years together. Annie was the wonderful mother of Arthur F. (51) of Bagdad, Ariz., Victor A. (50) of Grand Junction, Colo., Anita Li (49) of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Charles E. Jr. (48) of Grand Junction, Colo. Annie left 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, all of whom had the privilege of meeting her in person. Annie spent her entire adult life working in a profession that she loved. After graduating from high school at the age of 15, Annie attended the University of Philippines School of Nursing, graduating in 1956 as a Registered Nurse. Upon arriving in the U.S., she began working as an RN at Montrose Memorial Hospital in Montrose, Colo. In 1963, Annie and Ed moved to Uravan, Colo., a uranium processing plant town where she worked as an industrial nurse. The family moved back to Montrose, Colo., in 1969 where she again worked at the Montrose Memorial Hospital. Later, moving to Norwood, Colo., she worked as an RN for a primarily ranching community. At this point, Annie was performing the duties of what would soon become known as a Nurse Practitioner. In 1974 Annie entered the Utah Medex program and graduated as a Physician's Assistant. She returned to Uravan, Colo., in 1975 as a Physician's Assistant. When Union Carbide closed their clinic in 1980, Annie joined Advanced Health Systems, a group of former employees and co-workers established to revive defunct hospitals. In 1981, she was placed in charge of Northland Medical Center emergency room after moving to Holbrook, Ariz. Annie and Ed moved to Bagdad, Ariz. in 1983 where she practiced as a Physician's Assistant until her retirement in August of 2007. In November of that same year, Annie and her sister, Delores, had the pleasure of returning to their homeland to reconnect with family and friends. After spending over 50 years as a health care provider, Annie was stricken with cancer and had a relatively short but fierce battle before succumbing to it. She was surrounded by her husband and their children at her passing in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009. Annie left behind not only family but a great number of friends and fans. She will be sorely missed by all. Services will be at 1 p.m. Sept. 27, 2009, at The Commons, 625 27 1/2 Road, Grand Junction, Colo. A potluck will follow at 660 30 1/2 Road.
