The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ January 21, 2004, p. B12 Clara Viola Russell, 93, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on Jan. 15, 2004. She was born in Sac County, Iowa on April 13, 1910. Clara graduated from Sac City, Iowa high school and went on to become a country school teacher. After her marriage to Ivy Russell in 1933, she became a homemaker and loving mother to her two children, Sandy Cather and Bruce Russell. Clara and Ivy farmed in Iowa until her health prompted their move to Wickenburg in 1961. Clara never retired from her homemaking profession. She loved to cook and bake and enjoyed having people around to experience her farm-based culinary skills. She was active in activities for the school, the Presbyterian Church and the community. After the death of her husband in 1992, she remained in her own home for several years, moving to My Father's Retirement Ranch in the late 1990s. In May 2003 she moved to the Good Shepherd Care Facility in Peoria where she lived out her long and Christian-based life. She is survived by her daughter Sandy Cather of Avondale, Ariz.; son Bruce Russell of San Diego, Calif.; granddaughters Cammie (Jonathan) Bird of Goodyear, Ariz. and Nicki (Erik) Hansen of Aliso Viejo, Calif.; great-granddaughter Sydney Bird; sisters Helen Weeber and Phyllis Auen of Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews; and the many friends she thought of as family. She was preceded in death by her husband and her sister, Vera Jansen of Iowa. Services were held at the Presbyterian Church in Wickenburg on Jan. 19, 2004. Interment with her husband will be at a later date in Sac City, Iowa. Clara was a beautiful woman and her warm smile and loving care will be missed by everyone. Arrangements by Frey Funeral Home. |
