Reed Funeral Service: 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Beatrice, Neb. and 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, 2004, at the Heafey-Heafey-Hoffman-Dworak & Cutler Funeral Home at 78th and West Center Road in Omaha, Neb. Jack W. Reed, 75 years of age, of Beatrice, Neb., formerly of Elkhorn, Neb. passed away at his home Saturday morning, March 6, 2004. He was born on July 9, 1928, at Orleans, Neb. He was a 1946 graduate of McCook High School in McCook, Neb. and received his B.S. in Engineering from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, Neb. in 1951. He had been employed by the Nebraska Department of Roads and then was Vice President of Mining for Peter Kiewit and Sons in Omaha, Neb. until he retired in 1986. He had lived in Elkhorn, Neb. for 21 years, Wickenburg, Ariz. for five years, and Beatrice, Neb. for the last two years. He and Eunice (Reinke) Carpenter were married on May 18, 1985, in Las Vegas, Nev. He was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Beatrice, NE. and former member of the Lutheran Church in Wickenburg, Ariz.; the Elks Lodge, American Legion, Sportsmen's Club, Classic Car Club, Chamber of Commerce volunteer and was a volunteer at the Desert Caballeros Western Museum, all in Wickenburg, Ariz.; and the Arizona Rangers. He was a past member of the Midwest Trail Riders in Elkhorn, Neb. He enjoyed horses, Nebraska Football, trail riding, hunting, fishing, family outings (especially with his grandchildren), walking, dancing, took long trips in his motor home, and collected guns. Survivors include his wife Eunice; sons Brett Reed and his wife Debra of Sheridan, Wyo. and Scott Reed and his wife Barbara of Omaha, Neb.; daughter Lori Wentz and her husband Jim of Omaha, Neb; stepson Chris Carpenter and his wife Barbara of Danville, Calif.; step daughters Vicki Bancroft and her husband Bill of Long Beach, Calif. and Kim York and her husband Dwight of Beatrice, Neb.; 13 grandchildren and three great grandchildren; and sister Dot Confer and her husband Harold of San Antonio, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents Anthony and Lillian (Arnel) Reed; his first wife Donna Gayl Reed; and granddaughter Alexandra Salem Reed. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Beatrice, Neb. and at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, 2004, at the Heafey-Heafey-Hoffman-Dworak & Cutler Funeral Home at 78th and West Center Road in Omaha, Neb. with Reverend Dr. Delmar Wiemers and Ernest Waltke officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Omaha, Neb. The body will lie in state Monday from 12 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice, Neb. and at the church one hour preceding the service on Tuesday. The body will also lie in state at the Heafey-Heafey-Hoffman-Dwoark & Cutler Funeral Home in Omaha, Neb. from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday. A family prayer service will be held at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday at the church. A memorial has been established to the families choice with the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice, Neb. in charge.
