The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Saturday, May 5, 2007 January 03,1919 - April 08, 2007 Virgil Edward Brunkow, 87, died on April 8,2007. He was born in Onaga, Kansas, graduated from Topeka High School and attended Washburn College. He served as a Staff Sergeant with the US Army during World War II. An avid golfer, he was a past member of the Yorba Linda and Indian Wells Country Clubs in California. He achieved the distinction of hitting five "holes in one" during his golfing experience, the last occurring at age 78 at Antelope Hills Golf Course in Prescott. Virgil played in a number of celebrity tournaments over the years and was privileged to play opposite Sam Snead in the mid 1930s. Before becoming a real estate developer, he worked for Alpha Beta Markets in California. Survivors include his sister, Gale Curtis of Cassville, Mo.; sons, Mark E. Brunkow of Corona, Calif. and Michael F. Boyle (stepson) of San Diego, Calif.; daughters, Gena L. Lucostic of Keizer, Ore. and Kristena Mattivi of Yorba Linda, Calif.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A private memorial service took place in the Prescott home on April 15. The family requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to YRMC Hospice, 3262 North Windsong Drive, Prescott Valley, AZ 86314. Information provided by survivors. |
