Father of J.D. Halstead Aged 107 Years

Dr. Joseph Singer Halstead, father of J.D. Halstead of the Halstead Lumber Company at Five Points celebrated his 107th birthday at Breckenridge, Mo., on March 4.

Our local lumber merchant, who makes an annual pilgrimage to the old folks, was at the celebration. His father is authoritively asserted to be the oldest Mason alive in the U.S. He is a native of Kentucky, but moved to Missouri shortly before the civil war and went to farming.

His wife is 97 years of age, and out of eight children seven are still alive and have reached a ripe old age. Dr. Halstead claims his longevity is due to moderate eating and drinking, tho he has used tobacco all his life.
