Melaquias (Mike) Flores

Melaquias "Mike" Flores, 90, of Flagstaff, died Monday, June 15, 2009.

Mr. Flores was born May 25, 1919, in Soham, N.M., to Abel and Esmelia Flores. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed in Egypt. He and his wife made their home in Flagstaff, living in the city for 55 years and raising their family before moving to Chandler. He retired from civil service work at Navajo Army Depot.

Mr. Flores is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Grace Flores; children Fran Anaya (Johnny), Michael Flores (Linda), Albert Flores (Linda), Richard Flores (Barbara), Martha Vigil (Dan), Consuelo Brennan (Barry), Celina Saldana (Nick), Arthur Flores (Sandi), Christina Mckerracher (Ralph) and John Flores (Michael); 18 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, one sister, two grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Rosary is scheduled for Monday at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass is Tuesday at 10 a.m., both at San Francisco De Asis (St. Pius X Chapel), 2257 E. Cedar Ave. In honor of Mr. Flores, family members are asking, if possible, for those who attend to wear blue to the mass. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
