The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Sunday, April 22, 2007 Jim Black, age 69, passed away April 20, 2007, in Prescott Valley, Ariz. Jim was born December 29,1937, in Buffalo, Okla., son of Harold and Eve (Kenneck) Black. He graduated from Fort Supply, Okla., in 1956. He left Oklahoma in the early 1960s for the California lights. Jim and his wife Beverly shared 37 years together and he will be missed greatly by his family and many friends. Jim is survived by his wife Beverly of Prescott Valley; mother Eva; daughters Cynthia and son-in-law Dale Bliss, Tracey and son-in-law Mark Meiner, Patti and son-in-law Vincent Precilla all of Oklahoma City, Okla.; three stepchildren, Richard (Mike) Young of Prescott Valley, Ariz., Brenda (Sue) Young of Lafeyette, Colo., Karilyn Young of Haines, Alaska; mother-in-law, Ada Whitney of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; nine grandchildren, Messina, Lindsey, Kaitlyn, Lindsay, Jennifer, Lance, Alex, Julie and James; and five great-grandchildren; and many, many friends. Jim was preceded in death by his father, Harold, in 1996. In the 1970s Jim and his stepchildren were avid motorcycle desert racers, and he belonged to two motorcycle clubs, the Maywood and Invaders. Jim and his wife Beverly moved to Prescott Valley in 1980 and he achieved his real estate license and sold commercial real estate in Prescott Valley in the early growth of the town and was instrumental in bringing not only his friends but people in Arizona to bring the businesses to Prescott Valley, and was recognized by Mayor Harvey Skoog in November 2006 with the mayor's recognition award which helped Prescott Valley grow and achieve the success that the town enjoys today. He served on the Town Council from 1986 to 1989 and will be remembered fondly by everyone in Prescott Valley as a true cornerstone for Prescott Valley. Jim's family said he truly loved Prescott Valley and was happy to be a part of the community he so dearly loved. Jim's family said he always saw the bright side of life in all he did. Jim loved to travel overseas, Australia, Africa, and on cruises. He also enjoyed traveling in his motor home to the different parts of the U.S., Mexico and Canada; He loved to fish. In the past 15 years Jim became a collector of muscle cars and street rods including newest 'acquisition "the Cuda." Commemoration services in honor of Jim will be held on Tuesday, April 24, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Sunrise Funeral Home Chapel, 8167 E. Highway 69, Prescott Valley, with pastor Bill Kolb officiating at the services. Jim's final wishes are to be placed at his favorite fishing hole in Chapman Reservoir in Colorado.
