Nora Jean (Curley) Bradley, 70, died Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, in Scottsdale, surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Bradley was born on Dec. 15, 1938, in Leupp, into the Tsi'naajinnii (Black Streaked Wood Clan) for the Ashiihi (Salt People Clan). She attended Red Lake School and Intermountain School in Brigham City, Utah. While working in Los Angeles, she met Leonard Lee Bradley and they were married in 1960. The couple moved to Mexican Hat, Utah, in 1961 and eventually settled in Dennehotso, in 1963.

In 1964, Mrs. Bradley began a career that would span 28 years working for the Dennehotso Boarding School as a dorm mom and educational assistant. She brought tremendous talent, hard work, energy, creativity and excellence to her job as she touched the lives of many children in the Dennehotso community. After retiring from Dennehotso in 1992, she moved to Scottsdale to be near her four children and grandchildren.

She loved spending time with her family, traveling to Leupp, Kayenta, California and Montana, visiting friends and relatives, attending pow-wows and beadworking. She was an avid Phoenix Suns and Arizona Cardinals fan and loved watching the games with her family.

Mrs. Bradley is survived by her son, Darryl Bradley (Dora); daughters Tammy Whitaker (Christopher), Vanessa Bradley and Lenora Bradley (Kent Davis); eight grandchildren; sisters Betty Crosby, Nellie Yazzie and Emma Jean Willie; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Lee Bradley; brothers Howard Kelly, Hoover Schultz, and Merton Kelly; and sisters Clinette Schultz and Dorothy Monroe.

Visitation will be Friday, at 1 p.m., with a funeral service following at 2 p.m. at the Norvel Owens Mortuary, 914 E. Route 66, in Flagstaff. Burial will conclude services at the Citizens Cemetery.
