Lucy (Martinez) Chavez

Lucy Chavez, 84, of Flagstaff, died Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, at the Olivia White Hospice Home with her family at her side.

Mrs. Chavez was born to Trancito Martinez and Sista Sandoval on March 5, 1925, in their family home in Flagstaff. She married Charles Chavez in July of 1954. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2004. She worked for Foodtown as a butcher and later a cashier. She also worked for Babbitt Brothers. She took comfort in caring for her children and grandchildren.

Mrs. Chavez is survived by her children, Clark Chavez, Evangeline Chavez, Joseph (Karen) Chavez and Frank (Petra) Chavez; eight grandchildren; four great-grandsons; her younger brother, Gilbert (Becky) Martinez; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; sisters Jenny Chavez, Stella Colmenero and Esther Carlos; brother Trancito Martinez; and her parents.

Holy Rosary and Vigil service will be on Thursday,at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic church, 224 S. Kendrick St. A funeral Mass will be Friday at 10 a.m., also at Our Lady of Guadalupe. Interment will be in Citizens Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest with her husband, Charles. Condolences can be sent to her family at www.norvelowensmortuary.com.
