Irene Elizabeth (West) Murphey

Irene Elizabeth (West-Guilbert) Murphey passed away on Jan. 20, 2006, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Md.

She is survived by her loving husband, Norman A. Murphey, who gave her the best of years and daughters Marion Kammauf, Lynelle Brant, Marjorie McCagh and their families. Irene was born Oct. ll, 1930 in Camp Verde, Ariz. She was the eldest child of Amy Elaine (Howell Stock) West arid Irving Coleirian West.

She graduated from Prescott High School, earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in education from the University of Arizona and her Masters Degree in education from Arizona State University.

In addition to her husband, daughters and their families, she is survived by her brothers and sisters, Everett "Sonny" West and wife Jan of Roosevelt, Utah; Mary Lou "Betty" Pierce of Mayer, Ariz.; Elaine Heydom and husband Karl of Kanab, Utah; and Alvin West and wife Phyllis of Tempe, Ariz. Additional survivors include Norman's loving children, Mike Murphey, Louise Murphey, Ellen Ahl and their families.

Services will be held in Prescott on April 22, 2006. According to Irene's wishes, the body was cremated.

Interment will be at 1 p.m. at Redwood Memorial Gardens, Dewey, Ariz.

A reception will follow at the Prescott Valley Elks Lodge, 6245 E. 2nd St., Prescott Valley, Ariz.

Memorial contributions may be made to the National Foundation for Transplants in honor of Deanna Palmer.

Hodgkin's disease via a successful bone marrow transplant.

From the hills and desert of Arizona to the mountains of Maryland,
Irene lived life to the fullest and taught us to enjoy all that it offered. She leaves behind family and friends who will miss her lively conversation, quick wit and eagerness for the next adventure. We will keep her with us through her art and the memories we bold in our hearts.
