Dona Marie Ikard, died Wednesday at her home in Glendale on Wednesday, February 9, 2005 following a courageous battle with cancer.

With the same tenacity she fought her cancer, Dona embraced life, love, and God with a list of distinctive merits that can only be touched upon in this write-up.

Dona loved and supported her husband John of 32 years ten-fold through his career, his love for sports, and his passion for learning and teaching God's grace.

She raised nine children--all living and delighted in the lineage of 21 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Following an empty nest, Dona braved the college scene and completed a BA degree from Arizona State University West in 1999-graduating Magna Cum Laude with honorary membership in the Golden Key National Honor Society and Phi Theta Kappa. Her learning fortitude earned her a nomination in 1999 for the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Arizona Ageless Hero Award for the Love of Learning.

When she wasn't learning, she was teaching God's word to children. Dona taught Sunday school for Cathedral of the Valley for over 21 years.

She was never afraid to be herself and lived out God's grace in all areas of her life and with every person she touched. Her chain of memories will live in us all forever.

Dona also colored our lives with a beautiful gift of art which will be on display at the memorial service at The Valley Cathedral, 6225 N. Central Ave.

We would like to thank all our loved ones for all the help, support, and prayers. Dona is dancing with Jesus in heaven now.
