The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ August 4, 2004, p. B7 Lois Grace Onstine, 78, passed away July 29 from cancer at her home in Wickenburg. She was born April 25, 1926 in Berthoud, Colo., where she spent her early childhood with Sam and Grace Knoll, her parents, and two younger sisters, Phyllis (died at 9 years of age) and Ellen. She and her family moved to California in the 1930s and also lived in Oregon, where she attended Oregon State University. She then moved back to California, where she met and married World War II veteran and University of Southern California graduate Daniel H. Onstine, a mechanical engineer. They raised three children and had the opportunity to travel to the East Coast, Spain, and Mexico with Dan's work. She loved animals, oil painting, gardening, nature in general (especially bird watching) and participating in family activities. She was such a kind, gentle and loving person that most people she met, including pharmacists and doctors, counted her among their friends. Lois and Dan raised their family in California, where they lived until 1987, when they moved to Wickenburg. She lived in Wickenburg for 17 years - helping out all of her close friends and family, whatever their problem, no matter what was going on in her life. She was a woman who carried herself with grace and always had a kind word to say to and about everyone. Even though she was 78 years old, Lois still liked to swing dance to local jazz groups with her husband. She recently traveled to see family in North Carolina, and landmarks like Yellowstone National Park and the Grand Canyon. She will be terribly missed by her husband of 49 years, 11 months, Dan (Wickenburg), sister Ellen Dix (California), sons Greg (Phoenix) and Dave (North Carolina), daughter Danelle Jenkins (Wickenburg) and grandchildren Cyndi Jenkins (Wickenburg), Esther and Elliot Onstine (North Carolina), as well as her extended family and many friends. Her family is planning a memorial service at the First Presbyterian Church in Wickenburg on Aug. 12. There will be another service in Colorado, where she will have her marker placed with that of her family. The family asks that instead of sending flowers or gifts, to give donations in memory of Lois Onstine to the American Cancer Society to help fund research for a cure to this vicious disease.
