Memorial services for Richard Lee Jensen, 71, of Cascade, Idaho, and Wickenburg, who died Monday Aug. 2, 2004 at a Boise hospital of natural causes, were conducted Monday (Aug. 9) at the Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett, Idaho.

Pastor Jim Thibodeaux of Cascade Community Church will officiate.

Richard was born on Feb. 26, 1933 at Graettinger, Iowa, to Albert and Lottie (Johnson) Jensen. He was reared and educated in Graettinger. He moved to California and worked in grocery stores.

Richard joined the United States Army and served during the Korean War. He received an honorable discharge in 1954.

He married Maurine Stansberry of Covina on Aug. 26, 1956 in Azusa, Calif. They lived in Southern California until 1974, when they moved to Mammoth Lakes, Calif.

Richard worked at numerous grocery stores throughout California. In 1978, they moved to Sweet, where they lived for 17 years before moving to Emmett, Idaho. He worked for Safeway, Treasure Valley Bank and later for Micron.

Richard retired in 1993.

He had a great since of humor, and loved to fish the Owens River in California with his buddy Baxter. He loved to play pool, cribbage, listen to jazz (especially Dixieland Jazz music), watch old westerns, and Friday Night Fights (boxing).

His greatest pastime was spending time with his grandchildren and family.

Richard was active in many organizations, including life memberships in the American Legion Post in Iowa, and VFW Post No. 4900 in Emmett; past member of the Emmett Lions Club and was active in testing children's eyes at area schools; and currently a member of the Cascade Lions Club.

Richard was also active in fraternal organizations such as being a member of the Elks for 36 years, BPOE No. 2160 of Wickenburg, and the Masonic Lodge in California.

Richard was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wickenburg and the Cascade Community Church in Cascade.

He is survived by his wife Maurine Jensen of Cascade and Arizona; three sons and daughter-in-laws Randy (Gwynna Walker) Jensen of Emmett, Rick (Lori Wright) Jensen and Eric (Cari Fenn) Jensen all of Meridian, Idaho; seven grandchildren, Ericka, Kyler, Stephanie, Kayla, Andrew, Greg, and Madison Jensen; a brother, Kenneth (Lenore) Jensen of Graettinger, Iowa; two sisters, Clarine Jensen of Northglen, Colo., and Noeline (Ken) Miracle of Round Rock, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Lions Eye Bank or to the Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation.
