The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Wednesday, September 30, 2009 Sydonia May DeVault, 65, of Prescott Valley, Ariz., passed away Sept. 26, 2009. Born on March 31, 1944, in Denver, Colo., she was the daughter of John and May Jones. Sydonia graduated from Steamboat Springs High School in Steamboat Springs, Colo., in 1962. She married Dick DeVault on May 25, 1963, at the United Methodist Church in Steamboat Springs. They lived and raised their children on the East Coast while Dick completed a 24-year tour with the United States Navy. They moved to Prescott Valley from Chula Vista, Calif., in May 1989. Sydonia retired from the Prescott Unified School District where she worked as a kitchen manager and later as a food center office computer clerk. She is a past matron of the Golden Rule Chapter #1 Order of the Eastern Star (OES) in Prescott and a member of Chula Vista Chapter #345, OES in Chula Vista, a charter member of Canyon Court #18 Order of the Amaranth in Prescott, a member of Qadesh Temple #35 Daughters of the Nile in Phoenix, Ariz., past matriarch and charter member of Granite Encampment Lodge #1, Past Noble Grand and charter member of Turquoise Star #9 Rebecca Lodge Order of the Odd Fellows in Prescott Valley. Sydonia is preceded in death by her father, John, and brothers John Charles Jones and Lonnie Jones. She is survived by her husband, Richard "Dick" DeVault; mother May Tow; sister Marjorie Jones; and brother Donald Jones, all of Prescott Valley; children Roy DeVault, Pamela Robles and Mark DeVault, all of San Diego; and four grandchildren. Sydonia loved to bowl, travel, help with charity work and play with the grandkids. A memorial service will be held on Friday, Oct. 2, 2009, at 10 a.m. at Prescott Valley United Methodist Church, 8944 E. Sommer Dr., Prescott Valley, with a reception following in the Fellowship Hall.
