The Williams News, Williams, Arizona Tuesday, August 11, 2009 Madden, William Allen, Ssgt US Army (Ret.) Bill was a patriot. He graduated from H.S. in 1969 after lettering in every sport. He joined the LAPD and served until 1971 when he decided to serve his country in Vietnam. He was an Airborne Military Policeman and saw plenty of action. Bill, like so many, was a victim of Agent Orange and suffered debilitating illnesses throughout his life. Along the way Bill was married and had two daughters from whom he was estranged. He loved his 6 grandkids. Bill was very proud of his long service as personal security officer for Generals Goodpaster and Haig when they served as Supreme Commander, Allied Powers Europe. He was Captain of the US Army Team that won the European Military Softball championship in 1979. Bill retired from the Army in 1996 and graduated from NAU in 2006. Bill was born in Geneva, Ohio on May 2, 1949 to Jack N. Madden and Ruth Madden, both deceased. He is survived by his older brother, Jack of Williams, AZ, his younger brother, Harold of Oak Hills, CA, and his little sister, Suzanne, of Sacramento, CA. Bill was a resident of the Old Soldiers Home in Washington D.C. He was a multiple Gold Medalist at the 2008 Senior Olympics for the District of Columbia. Ssgt William Allen MADDEN. United States Army (Retired) died under mysterious circumstances at the Veterans Administrations Hospital in Washington, D.C. on August 25, 2008. He was 59. |
