John Leslie Bell, 65, died on Aug. 25, 2008 in Escondido, Calif.

John was born on Aug. 28, 1942 in Jerome. His parents were Esther Elmira Whiting Bell and Leslie Bell.

John attended grade school in Clarkdale and Cottonwood. He attended military school in Roswell, N.M. for two years. He served three years in the U.S. Army, with an honorable discharge in 1964 at Fort Hamilton, N.Y. He received a medal for marksmanship (M-14 rifle).

John attended Arizona State University in Tempe and graduated on June 3, 1969 with a bachelor of science in engineering. He then started working as an associate engineer with NCR and then was promoted to development engineer. In April 1980 he went to work as a project engineer for Burroughs Corp. and in 1982 was promoted to staff engineer. During his work, he drew several designs in electronics that were patented with John named as the inventor. He spent some time in China, Alaska and Germany.

John is survived by his cousins Eagle M. Jones, Opal L. Means and Harriet A. Lockwood.

He was preceded in death by two cousins Cody L. Pearson and Tom T. Bowdon Jr. along with his parents and his aunt Miriam E. Bowdon.

John will be buried at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 25, 2009 in the Williams Cemetery by his mother and grandfather John Whiting. The VA will honor him with a small ceremony.
