Heula Winifred (Irion) Webber

Huela Irion Webber died January 8, 2003, after a long illness. She was born October 2, 1922 in Phoenix, to Fred and Ruby IRION.

Huela has been a lifetime Phoenician, living in only two homes in her 80 years. Her education began at Creighton Grammar School followed by Phoenix Union High School and Phoenix Junior College. Huela completed her BA at Arizona State College, Tempe.

During these years she worked the graveyard shift at Air Research making engine coolers for airplanes flown in WWII. Each weekday after her shift she went to college in Tempe. Further education was taken at UofA, Tucson, Ames, Iowa, and Pepperdine. She received her masters degree as well as a teaching credential. Huela completed a course of study and internship at Sawtelle Veterans Administration Hospital in Los Angeles, becoming a licensed dietician. Huela taught Home Economics one year and spent her professional years as a dietician in several Valley hospitals.

June 12, 1950 Huela married Harry L. WEBBER in a double wedding ceremony with her sister, Arleen IRION and George McLANE. Huela and Harry had three children: Klein, Harry Jr., and Ruby.

Huela was a lifetime Methodist growing up in the Creighton Methodist Church.

Starting at age 13 she played the piano and then the organ at Creighton. She was the organist for several Methodist Churches for 50 years. She was an active member of Creighton United Methodist Church. She and Harry were MYF leaders for six years early in their marriage. She was the Christian Education Chair for sometime; UMW member and was considered a prayer warrior. In 1965, Huela attended a Camp Farthest Out (A Christian camp with emphasis on prayer, personal relationship with Jesus, and world peace).

She served as a musician, youth and children's leader, prayer leader in Arizona and California for 32 years. Huela had a deep faith in God, which was a vital part of her life. Her faith was evident to all her many friends and family. Huela belonged to the Creighton Garden Club, the Independent Order of Foresters and First Families of Arizona. She served as a Cub Scout and 4-H leader as well as 12 plus years as a leader in Girl Scouts. Huela served as an advisor on several educational programs in the Valley including Rio Salado Community College.

Survivors include husband, Harry L. Webber, son and daughter-in-law, Harry L. and Barbara WEBBER, of Mesa; daughter and son-in-law, Ruby and Tom HEINZLEMAN, of Phoenix; sister and brother in law, Arleen and George McLANE, Chico, California; step-sister and brother-in-law, Mim and Mel SNOKE, Cottonwood; step mother, Amy IRION, of Phoenix; three nephews and two nieces and families live in CA and WA; seven cousins live in AZ, CA, and OR.

Huela was preceded in death by her brother Klein IRION; a son Klein WEBBER, both parents, and a step-mother Edith IRION.

A memorial service was held at Creighton United Methodist Church.

A private family service of interment was held at Greenwood Cemetery.

Huela was a loving, caring person, ready and willing to share her talents with all. She was loved and appreciated by many, many people.
