The White Mountain Independent Show Low, Arizona 09/24/2004 Ethel Laurena Brewer, 82, died Sunday Sept. 19, 2004 in Lakeside at the RTA Hospice & Palliative Care Center. She was born Jan. 15, 1922 in Clay Springs. Mrs. Brewer spent most of her life in Clay Springs. She is the descendent of some of the first pioneers to settle in this area. On September 22, 1936 she married Ted Brewer in the Mesa Arizona Temple. They built a lovely home in Clay Springs where they raised their family. She has always been a very loving & devoted mother & grandmother. The Pioneer spirit of settling and developing was very strong in her. Mrs. Brewer served on the Clay Springs School Board for 14 years and helped to build and develop the school. She served on the Cemetery Committee. Mrs. Brewer was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings throughout the church. She assisted her parents in the operation and development of the Country Store and the Clay Springs Post Office. She also served on the committee that helped to develop and improve Hwy 260, which has been a major asset for the entire area. In partnership with her husband & her father (William Ammon Hunt) they started and developed Clay Springs Water Company, which she owned and operated until it was sold to the community in 1996. She then turned much of her energy to her writing. Mrs. Brewer published two books, one on her Grandfather Levi Hancock and the second, her final project and documentary on the history and development of Clay Springs. This has proven to be an excellent book. A fitting conclusion to a wonderful and productive life. Mrs. Brewer is survived by her children, Ed Brewer, Orva Teichman, Gail Gardner, Ted Brewer, Bennett Brewer and Dave Cruz; four sisters, Marie Petersen, Sammy Kizzar, Annabelle Nelson, Rosemarie Bailey; 35 grandchildren, 56 great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Brewer; daughter, Nora Valene Peteron; two grandchildren and her parents. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday Sept. 25, at the Clay Springs Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday Sept. 24 at Owens Mortuary in Show Low and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Clay Springs Cemetery.
