Vernie May Petersen, age 76, died Nov. 29, 2005 in Payson.

She was born in Brilliant, N.M. The family moved to Arizona when she was about 5 years old. She grew up in Clay Springs and attended elementary school there and graduated from Snowflake Union High School. She then married Frank V. Petersen and they later moved to Overgaard where they made their home for the remainder of their lives.

Frank passed away in May 2001.

Vernie was a homemaker and helped her husband as secretary and bookkeeper in his logging and excavation business. In 1974 she became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed being a member of the Relief Society. She was always willing and happy to help those in need with food and other commodities to make their lives better. She loved being with her family and especially enjoyed going on picnics and other family outings in the woods.

She is survived by two sons, F. Tony Petersen and Robin K. Petersen, both of Overgaard; two brothers, Leonard Kizzar of Clay Springs and Harold Kizzar of LaMesa, Texas; two sisters, Mildred Witt and Alice Garvin both of Clay Springs, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2 at the Heber Chapel, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
