Fannie Mae Yazzie

GREASEWOOD, Ariz. — Graveside services for Fannie Mae Yazzie, 81, will be 10 a.m. Thursday, April 8 at Greasewood Springs Community Cemetery.

Yazzie died April 5 in Fort Defiance, Ariz. She was born Aug. 15, 1922, in Greasewood Springs, Ariz., into the Redhouse People Clan for the Bigwater People Clan.

Yazzie was employed with the Army depot in Bellemont, Ariz., Toyei Industries in Toyei, Ariz. and Greasewood Springs Community School in the Foster Grandparent program. She was a member of the Native American Church. Her hobbies included ranching, attending traditional ceremonies, sewing and traveling.

Survivors include her son, George Long of Sheepsprings; daughters, Charlene Brown of Sheepsprings, Caroline Antonio, Lorena Jim and Bertha Ben all of Greasewood Springs; and sisters, Barbara C. Williams of Phoenix and Isabelle Mitchell of Greasewood.

Yazzie was preceded in death by her husband, Chee Yazzie; parents, Jane Dinyazhe and John Pete; brother, Wilson Pete; and sister, Lillie Pete.

Pallbearers will be Leander Ben, Terry Roan, Nathan Williams, Delano Jim and other family members.

The family will receive friends and relatives after the burial services at Greasewood Springs Chapter.
