Nancy (Bahe) Phillips

Nancy Bahe Phillips, 81, died in Winslow May 25, 2004.

Nancy was born in the Keams Canyon area, the eldest of nine children. She was instrumental in helping to raise her brothers and sisters. After attending Truxton County School, Nancy met and married John B. Phillips by an arranged marriage in 1937. They had 10 children. They moved often following John's career with the railroad.

Nancy was first and foremost a homemaker but also well known for her rug weaving, she specialized in the Two-Grey-Hills style.

In the early 1950s she became a member of the Native American Church following closely the laws and guidelines of the church. Nancy was always helpful to her relatives, enjoying the company of her loved ones and was always ready to greet them with a smile and be on any service she could. She was a teacher, a disciplinarian, a comforter, and always catering to her children, making them her number one priority. She loved to share her knowledge and wisdom pertaining to the traditional Navajo ways and teachings. She will be missed by all.

Nancy is survived by her three sons, Edward (Bernice) of Dilkon, Anderson of Las Vegas, Nevada, Vincent (Marion) of Low Mountain; five daughters, Eunice Gorman of Holbrook, Mary ByJoe of Jeddito, Darlene (Hoskie) Davis of Holbrook, Perci (James) Lee of Holbrook, Iwanna (Terry) Thorne of Teesto; one brother, Felix Phillips of Low Mountain; four sisters, Grace Mitchell of Jeddito, Ruth Ventillie of Smoke Signal, Patricia Hawk of El Reno, Oklahoma; 21 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Graveside Services were held Saturday May 29, 2004 at the Jeddito Cemetery in Jeddito.

SHOW LOW Graveside services for Nancy Phillips, 81, were held Saturday, May 29 at the Jeddito Cemetery, Jeddito, Ariz.

Phillips was born in Keams Canyon.

Phillips attended Truxton County School. She was a homemaker, rug weaver, specializing in Two-Grey-Hills style. In the early 1950's she became a member of the Native American Church.

Phillips was a teacher, and she shared her knowledge and wisdom of Navajo traditions.

Survivors include her sons, Edward of Dilkon, Anderson of Las Vegas, Nev., Vincent of Low Mountain; daughters, Eunice Gorman of Holbrook, Mary ByJoe of Jeddito, Darlene Davis of Holbrook, Perci Lee of Holbrook, Iwanna Thorne of Teesto, Ariz.; brother, Felix Phillips of Low Mountian; sisters, Grace Mitchell of Jeddito, Ruth Ventillie of Smoke Signal, Ariz., Patricia Hawk of El Reno, Okla.; 21 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren
